One of the best ways to monitor your credit is by checking your annual credit report. When the Federal Trade Commission passed the Fair Credit Reporting Act they included a provision where all of the major credit reporting bureaus had to offer a free credit report to consumers every 12 months. It is through this annual credit report that consumers are able to monitor their credit scores, and make sure that there are no errors affecting their credit history. Since many consumers are interested in learning their credit score on a yearly basis there have been many annual credit report scam websites pop up around the internet. These websites will claim to offer a .free. credit report but will in fact charge consumers a fee for using their service.

Since there are so many annual credit report scam websites on the internet these days it is important for consumers to be aware that these websites exist. One of the most common websites associated with being a scam is FreeCreditReports.com. Many consumers are led to believe that they are signing up for a free credit report when in fact they are enrolling in the Triple Advantage Credit Monitoring service as well which will cost them $12.95 per month. Whenever you are entering your information into one of these credit check websites it is important that you read the fine print so that you are not charged an extra fee you do not know about.

In fact, there is only one website on the internet that is backed by the federal government and allowed to issue your free yearly credit report and that is annualcreditreport.com. Through annualcreditreport.com consumers are able to receive their credit history from all three of the major credit reporting bureaus. This is the only website on the internet where consumers can do this for no charge as specified by the provision in the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

While there may be a large number of other scam websites around the internet looking to cash in on unsuspecting consumers, annualcreditreport.com is not one of those websites. In fact many of the annual credit report scam websites will have a link to annualcreditreport.com stating that it is the only site on the internet authorized under federal law to issue your free credit report from the three major reporting companies.
